Terms of Service
1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms
LiftLab ("LiftLab," "we," "us") is operated by [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings]. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings] and cover your use of the LiftLab app and website at https://www.liftlaboratory.org (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. Who can use LiftLab
- You must be at least 13 years old. LiftLab is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly allow them to create accounts.
- If you are 13–17, you may use LiftLab only with permission from a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use. To share anything with friends, a member under 18 must link a parent or guardian's LiftLab account (18+) using a guardian code. The linked parent or guardian approves the teen's friend requests and any photos the teen shares; text posts about workouts and personal records don't need approval. Only give a guardian code to your own child or a teen you're legally responsible for. We strongly encourage teens to train under the supervision of a qualified coach or adult.
- You must give accurate information when you sign up, including your birth month and year.
- You may not use LiftLab if we have previously removed you, or if you're barred from using it under applicable law.
3. Health and safety: please read
- Not medical advice. Exercise cards, training tips, supplement ratings, articles and rehab exercises are general educational information drawn from cited sources. They are not medical, nutritional or physical-therapy advice and don't replace a professional who knows you.
- Blood pressure and heart rate labels (like "Normal range" or "High") follow published American Heart Association categories and are for tracking only. LiftLab doesn't diagnose or monitor any condition, and doesn't alert anyone about your readings. Talk to a doctor about your readings.
- Check with a doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have a health condition, injury, or are under 18.
- Rehab exercises are for use only as part of a plan from your doctor or physical therapist. Stop and contact your provider if anything hurts.
- Nutrition targets and food tracking are estimates calculated from published formulas (National Academies Dietary Reference Intakes and sports-nutrition position statements) using the stats you enter. Individual needs vary. They are not a diet prescription. Members under 18 are never given weight-loss or calorie-cutting targets; growing teens should not diet without guidance from a doctor. If you're worried about your eating or body image, contact a doctor or the National Alliance for Eating Disorders helpline at 866-662-1235.
- Supplements. Ratings describe published research; they are not recommendations to take any product. Talk to a doctor before taking any supplement. Teens should not use performance or hormone products.
- Exercise has risks, including injury. You choose what exercises to do and how much weight to lift, and you accept those risks. Use proper technique, spotters and safety equipment.
- In a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
4. Your account
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away at [contact email — set in Admin → Settings] if you think someone else has accessed it.
- One person per account. Don't share accounts or create accounts for someone else without their permission (a parent may help a teen sign up).
- You can delete your account at any time in the app (account button → Delete account).
5. Community rules (zero tolerance)
LiftLab is meant to be a positive, family-friendly place to share progress. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. You may not post, share or send anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens, shames or intimidates anyone, including comments about someone's body;
- contains nudity, sexual content, or sexually suggestive material, or sexualizes anyone. Content that sexualizes a minor is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and law enforcement;
- is hateful or discriminatory toward people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or similar characteristics;
- promotes or glorifies violence, self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating, including extreme dieting or weight-cutting;
- promotes, sells or explains how to obtain illegal drugs, anabolic steroids, SARMs, prescription drugs without a prescription, or other banned substances;
- is spam, advertising, or sells products or services, including supplements;
- includes another person's photo or personal information without their consent, or impersonates someone;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights; or
- is otherwise illegal.
Progress photos must show appropriate gym or athletic clothing. Photos from members under 18 are private unless the member shares one and their linked parent or guardian approves it.
Reporting and blocking. You can report any post and block any user from within the app. Blocking removes the friendship and stops you from seeing each other's content. We review reports promptly, aiming to act within 24 hours. When we find a violation we remove the content and may suspend or permanently remove the account that posted it, without notice.
6. Your content
- You own what you post (photos, personal records, posts and other content, "Your Content").
- You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, display and transmit Your Content only as needed to operate and improve the Service — for example, to show a post to the friends you shared it with. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept in backups for a limited time as described in the Privacy Policy.
- You confirm you have the right to post Your Content and that it follows these Terms.
- We may review, refuse or remove any content at our discretion, including content waiting for approval.
7. Our content and third-party links
The LiftLab app, design, and the way our exercise library and supplement guide are organized and written belong to [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings]. Exercise and supplement information summarizes publicly available research and guidance from the organizations cited on each card. LiftLab links to third-party websites (for example, the American Council on Exercise, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the National Institutes of Health and PubMed). We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content or privacy practices. A link isn't an endorsement by them of LiftLab or by us of them. We work to keep information accurate and current, but research changes and we can't guarantee that all information is complete, current or error-free.
8. Acceptable use of the Service
Don't: try to access accounts or data that aren't yours; probe, scan or test the Service for vulnerabilities without our permission; interfere with or overload the Service; scrape or collect data using automated means; copy, modify or reverse engineer the Service except as allowed by law; or use the Service to break any law.
9. Notifications
If you turn on push notifications, we may send you app announcements and, if enabled, alerts when friends set new personal records. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or in your device settings.
10. Fees
LiftLab is currently free. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you the price and terms before you're charged. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are also governed by those stores' terms.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using LiftLab and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we discontinue the Service, we'll try to give reasonable notice so you can download your data.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY INFORMATION IN IT IS ACCURATE OR SUITABLE FOR YOU.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, [OPERATOR NAME — SET IN ADMIN → SETTINGS] WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING ANY INJURY FROM EXERCISES OR SUPPLEMENTS YOU CHOOSE TO USE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
14. Indemnity
If you are an adult, you agree to defend and hold harmless [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings] from claims arising out of Your Content or your violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [State — set in Admin → Settings], USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, please contact us at [contact email — set in Admin → Settings] so we can try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in [State — set in Admin → Settings], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim locally, or the claim qualifies for small-claims court.
16. Apple App Store and Google Play
If you downloaded LiftLab from the Apple App Store:
- These Terms are between you and [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings] only, not Apple. [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings], not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your license to use the app is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as allowed by the App Store's Usage Rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings], not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims by you or third parties relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- [Operator name — set in Admin → Settings], not Apple, is responsible for investigating and resolving any claim that the app infringes someone's intellectual property rights.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
If you downloaded LiftLab from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply, and Google is not responsible for the app.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date and ask you to review and accept the new Terms in the app before continuing. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
